Turn a Zoom transcript into something a person can read

Zoom's transcript is a wall of timestamps with one clause each and the speaker's full name repeated on every line. This joins it back into paragraphs.

How it works.

A caption file is built for subtitles, so it breaks speech into one short clause per cue. Nobody can read a two hour meeting like that. The product here is the merge: consecutive cues from the same person become one paragraph, their name is said once, and the time they started speaking is kept.

Find the .vtt

Zoom saves it alongside a cloud recording. In Teams it is the download from the transcript pane. Any WebVTT or SRT file works.

Optionally tell it when the meeting started, and every timestamp becomes a real clock time rather than a count from zero.

The preview shows how many cues got merged into how many speaking turns. The PDF reads like a transcript instead of subtitles.

Questions, answered.

Why does my transcript have the same name on every line?

Because each caption cue is a couple of seconds long and carries the speaker on it. Merging consecutive cues from one person is what turns it back into readable speech.

Why would I fill in the meeting start time?

A caption file counts from zero, so it says 00:14:32 rather than a real time. If the transcript is going into an HR file or a case file, a real date and time is usually what is wanted.

Does it fix the punctuation?

No. What Zoom heard is what you get. Rewriting someone's words would make the transcript worth less, not more, because the point of it is that it is what was said.

Does it work with Teams and YouTube captions?

Yes. They are all WebVTT. The speaker name comes through wherever the file carries one.

What happens to my file?

It is deleted within 7 days, along with the finished PDF. It is used to make your file and nothing else. Nobody reads it.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no signup, no subscription and no password. You upload, you see the result, you pay once if you want it.
