Turn a Telegram export into a PDF you can read

Telegram Desktop gives you a folder called result.json and no way to read it. Upload it here and get back a proper transcript, with dates, names and photos in the right places.

How it works.

Telegram's JSON export is complete but unreadable. The awkward part is that a message's text is sometimes a plain string and sometimes a list of pieces, which is why most free converters spit out things like {"type":"bold"} in the middle of a sentence. This puts the sentence back together.

Step 1

Export from Telegram Desktop

Open the chat, click the three dots, Export chat history, and choose Machine-readable JSON. Telegram writes a folder with result.json in it plus your photos.

Step 2

Upload the folder or the file

Zip the whole folder and drop it here so the photos come through. If you only want the text, the result.json on its own is fine.

Step 3

Check it, then download

You see the messages parsed before paying. The PDF has a cover page with the date range and message count, then the conversation with dates, names and photos in place.

Questions, answered.

Why does the free converter I tried put code in the middle of my messages?

Because Telegram writes a message's text as a list of pieces when it contains a link, bold text or a mention, and most tools just dump that list into the page. This joins the pieces back into the sentence you actually sent.

Do photos come through?

Yes, if you upload the whole export folder as a zip. Photos sit in a separate folder next to result.json, so the file on its own has the text but not the pictures.

What about stickers, polls and forwarded messages?

Stickers show as the emoji they stand for, polls show the question and the options, and a forwarded message is labelled with where it came from.

Are the times right?

Telegram writes each message twice, once as a readable date with no timezone and once as a unix timestamp. This uses the timestamp, which is unambiguous.

What happens to my file?

It is deleted within 7 days, along with the finished PDF. It is used to make your file and nothing else. Nobody reads it.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no signup, no subscription and no password. You upload, you see the result, you pay once if you want it.
