Facebook Messenger to PDF - Export Messenger Chat as a Readable Transcript

How it works.

Messenger and Instagram come out of the same exporter with the same defect: text written as UTF-8 bytes escaped as Latin-1, so emoji and accented names arrive broken. The same repair fixes both.

Step 1

Ask Facebook for your information

Settings, Your Facebook Information, Download Your Information. Pick Messages, and pick JSON rather than HTML.

Step 2

Upload the zip

Drop it here whole. Your conversations are under messages/inbox with one folder each, and the longest is used.

Check it, then download

You see it parsed before paying. The PDF carries dates, senders, photos and a cover page with the date range.

Should I choose JSON or HTML when Facebook asks?

JSON. The HTML version looks readable in a browser but it is much harder to turn into a clean document, and it drops information the JSON keeps.

Can I do a group chat?

Yes. Everyone in it gets their own colour so you can follow who said what.

What if my thread is enormous?

Long threads are split across several files by Facebook. Uploading the whole zip handles that. If the zip is over the size limit, email me and I will run it by hand.

What happens to my file?

It is deleted within 7 days, along with the finished PDF. It is used to make your file and nothing else. Nobody reads it.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no signup, no subscription and no password. You upload, you see the result, you pay once if you want it.
