Turn your Android text messages into a PDF

SMS Backup and Restore writes one enormous XML file that nothing will open. Upload it and get your texts as a dated transcript, MMS pictures included.

How it works.

Most tools in this space are built for iPhone. This is the Android half that gets ignored. The file is one gigantic single line of XML with the pictures encoded inline, which is why opening it in a text editor freezes your machine.

The free Android app. Run a backup of your messages and it writes an XML file to your phone or your Google Drive.

Step 2

Upload the XML

Drop the file here. If it is very large, that is normal, the pictures are stored inside it.

Step 3

Check it, then download

You see your messages parsed first. The PDF shows sent and received correctly, with dates and the pictures from MMS.

Questions, answered.

Will it know which messages I sent?

Yes. The backup records the direction of every message and the PDF shows yours on one side and theirs on the other.

Do MMS pictures come through?

Yes. The picture is stored inside the XML itself and gets placed with the message it was attached to.

My emoji show up as numbers in other converters.

The app writes emoji as numeric XML escapes. Those get decoded here rather than printed as-is.

The file is over the size limit.

Run the backup again choosing messages only, without MMS, and it will be a fraction of the size. Or email me and I will handle the big one by hand.

What happens to my file?

It is deleted within 7 days, along with the finished PDF. It is used to make your file and nothing else. Nobody reads it.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no signup, no subscription and no password. You upload, you see the result, you pay once if you want it.
