Turn a Discord export into a readable PDF

Upload a DiscordChatExporter JSON file and get a transcript with names, dates and messages in order. Discord's own data package works too, but it only holds the messages you sent.

How it works.

DiscordChatExporter is the tool everyone ends up being told to use, and it has about twelve thousand stars on GitHub. It also needs your account token, and its own docs warn that automating a user account is against Discord's terms. If you already have its JSON, this turns it into a readable document. If you do not, Discord's own data package needs no token, but it comes with one big catch, covered below.

Step 1

Get the JSON

If you have DiscordChatExporter, export as JSON. If not, ask Discord for your data in User Settings, Data & Privacy, Request Data. Discord says it can take up to 30 days, and the download link is emailed to you.

Step 2

Upload it

Drop the JSON file here. For Discord's own package, open the messages folder and upload the messages.json from the folder of the channel you want. Given the whole zip, the first messages file found is used, which may not be the channel you meant.

Step 3

Read it, then pay if you want it

You see the messages parsed first. The PDF has the conversation in order, with the channel name when the file carries it and a colour for each person.

Questions, answered.

Will Discord's own data package give me the whole conversation?

No, and it is worth knowing before you pay. Discord's help page says the package holds the messages you have sent. Nobody else's messages are in it, so the PDF is your side only, every message labelled as you, and the preview flags it. A DiscordChatExporter file has everyone's messages and names.

What about bot messages and link previews?

In a DiscordChatExporter file, the text inside embeds is kept. A channel full of bot posts can come out as blank rows in tools that only read the message body, because the words live in the embed.

Are reactions included?

Yes for DiscordChatExporter files, listed under the message they belong to with the count. Discord's own package does not include reactions.

Can you do a whole server?

One channel at a time through the page. If you need a whole server, email us and we will run it in a batch.

What happens to my file?

It is deleted within 7 days, along with the finished PDF. It is used to make your file and nothing else. Nobody reads it.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no signup, no subscription and no password. You upload, you see the result, you pay once if you want it.
