How it works.

TikTok puts likes, watch history, messages and login records in one file, under human-readable keys that have not stayed the same between export versions. Rather than assume one shape, this walks the file looking for anything that is a conversation, which gives it a better chance of surviving the next change too.

Step 1

Request your data

In the TikTok app, tap Profile, the Menu button, Settings and privacy, Account, Download your data. Pick what to include, choose JSON as the file format, and request it. TikTok says it may take a few days, and the file is then available for up to 4 days.

Step 2

Upload it

Drop the zip or the .json file from inside it. If Windows will not extract the zip, try 7-Zip, or upload the zip here as it is.

Step 3

Check it, then download

You see how many conversations were found. The PDF has them with dates and senders.

Questions, answered.

TikTok's zip will not open on Windows.

Try 7-Zip to get the .json out, then upload that. We have not found TikTok explaining why this happens, so we cannot tell you the cause, only the workaround people use.

Should I ask for JSON or TXT?

JSON. This reads the JSON version only, so a TXT export will not work here.

It found several conversations. Which one do I get?

All of them, merged into one timeline in date order, with each message labelled by sender. That means messages from different conversations sit next to each other where their times overlap. The preview tells you how many conversations were in there, so check it before paying.

Is every message in there?

Not necessarily. TikTok's help says some data may be left out of the file, such as data that affects the privacy of others, and that the last 24 to 48 hours of some categories may be missing. What is in the file is what goes in the PDF.

What happens to my file?

It is deleted within 7 days, along with the finished PDF. It is used to make your file and nothing else. Nobody reads it.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no signup, no subscription and no password. You upload, you see the result, you pay once if you want it.
