How it works.

The part that goes wrong is the fold. The bi-fold here is one sheet of A4, printed both sides and folded once, and its four pages do not print in reading order: the front cover shares a side with the back page. Lay it out in reading order in Word and the back cover ends up inside the programme, which you find out at the copy shop the day before the funeral. This does that arrangement for you and shows you the pages in reading order so you can check the words. It is made for A4 paper, so on US Letter it prints slightly smaller.

Step 1

Fill in what you know

The name is the only thing that has to be there. Everything else can be blank now and filled in when the family decides. Nothing is lost by starting before it is all settled.

Step 2

Add the photo and look at it

The preview shows the four pages in reading order, at real proportions, so you can check the spelling of every name, and that nothing long has been cut off at the bottom of a page, before anyone prints anything. That preview is free.

Step 3

Download and print

You get one PDF with the pages already arranged for folding and 3 mm of bleed on every edge. The preview tells you how to run it through the printer, and so does the answer below.

Made for how funerals are done here

  • A4 paper, the size every copy shop and funeral home in South Africa prints on.
  • The order of service is printed exactly as you type it, in your order, so it works for a church service, a memorial at home or a graveside service.
  • Space for readings, pallbearers, the family, a message of thanks and the reception venue, all optional. Tributes and the programme director go in the order of service, wherever they fall.
  • Type names in any language, including isiZulu, Sesotho, Afrikaans or Setswana. Accents and special characters print correctly.

From form to copy shop

  1. Fill in what you know. Only the name is required, and you can come back as the family decides.
  2. Add the photo and check the free preview, which shows all four pages in reading order.
  3. Pay once and download the PDF, already arranged for folding.
  4. Take it to a copy shop or the funeral home and ask for A4, double sided, flipped on the short edge, folded once.

Questions, answered.

How much is it?
$12, which checkout shows in rand with VAT included. You pay once for the file and print as many as you need.
Can the funeral home print it?
Usually. The PDF has 3 mm bleed on every edge. Tell them it is A4 folded once.
Can I make a smaller single sheet?
Yes. Choose the single sheet option for an A5 programme printed front and back.
What if the details change?
The preview is free and can be run again. Pay when the words are final.
