Free preview before you pay

Print a WhatsApp chat as clean, numbered pages

WhatsApp has no Print button. Export the chat, drop the file here, and get a plain document with every message, who sent it and when, ready to print on A4 or Letter.

Leave this on auto. It only matters for a chat where no date is past the 12th, and the preview tells you when that has happened. Change it and the preview updates.

How it works.

WhatsApp does not give you a document. On iPhone the export is a ZIP file, and on Android it is a text file with any media sent alongside it. Getting that out of the app is the part most people get stuck on, so that is step one.

Step 1

Export from WhatsApp

On iPhone, open the chat, tap the contact or group name, then Export Chat. On Android, open the chat and tap More options, More, Export chat. Choose Attach Media on iPhone or Include media on Android if you want the photos, or Without Media for a much smaller file. Send it to yourself.

Step 2

Drop the file in

Upload the ZIP as WhatsApp made it. Do not unzip it first. If Android gave you a .txt with the photos as separate files, put them in one zip together, because this takes one file. You will see the participants, the message count and the real formatting straight away, for free.

Step 3

Check it, then pay

If the names, dates and layout look right, pay once and download the full PDF. If something looks wrong, close the tab and nothing is charged.

Four ways to print it.

Every sample below is page one of a real PDF, made from the same sample as the one above by the same code that makes your file. Pick a style when you preview, and change it as often as you like.

Why printing WhatsApp is harder than it should be

WhatsApp only lets you see what is on your screen, one screenful at a time, so most people end up with a pile of screenshots that cut messages in half and leave gaps between them. The export WhatsApp gives you is a text file with every message in it, but it is one long block of lines that prints badly.

This page is set to the Clean document style: black text on white, the sender and time on every message, day breaks between days, and page numbers. It uses very little ink and photocopies well. You can switch to chat bubbles, the formal transcript or the book layout in the preview before you pay.

Getting the export off your phone

On iPhone: open the chat, tap the contact or group name at the top, scroll down and tap Export Chat, choose Attach Media or Without Media, then save it to Files or mail it to yourself. WhatsApp makes a ZIP file.

On Android: open the chat, tap the three dots (More options), then More, then Export chat, choose Include media or Without media, then send it to yourself or save it to Google Drive. WhatsApp makes a .txt file, with any photos as separate files.

Without Media is much smaller and is all you need if you only want the words. Include media if the photos should print next to the messages they were sent with.

Questions, answered.

Can I print only part of a chat?
WhatsApp always exports the whole conversation. The PDF has page numbers and day headings, so you can print a page range from any PDF viewer.
Will it print on A4 and US Letter?
Yes. Choose "Fit to page" in the print dialog if your printer adds its own margins.
Can I print WhatsApp messages from WhatsApp Web?
A browser prints only what is loaded on screen, in its own layout. The export from your phone gives you the whole conversation, which is why it is the route used here.
Does it print emojis and other languages?
Yes. Emojis, accented names and scripts like Arabic and Hindi print as they appeared in the chat.
